I have a 1985 xj700 project bike I'm putting back together, I'm close to being finished and need some assistance. The pickup coil/governor is eather the wrong one on the bike or it has the wrong IC module on it. I have asked for assistance twice on this site and one member sent me the "manual" page with the pickup coil/governor on it ( which was cool and Thanks again). Help please.
    Thanks Donho

It would help if you had the terminology correct.

You said it's a "project bike" do you have a service manual?

There are two pickup coils, mounted on the LH side of the motor.

The TCI (ignition control "black box") is located under one of the side covers or under the seat, the Yamaha diagrams are inconclusive.

Sorry about the terminology, let me explain. A friend of mine gave me the bike, it was running when he got it and he rode it to work for awhile. The bike had an electrical problem (I dont know what type) and he let one of his other friends "fix it", never got it running again. That's when he told me to come pick it up, title and all. I have gone through it and replaced some bad wires, new IC module. Sanded and primed, repaired the gas tank and a few other things. Now the pickup coil/governor is kicking my butt. I do have a manual and it has limited info about the governor. That's where I'm at. Donho
