Hi all. I have been lurking for a month or so now and have finally picked up an XJ550. I used to have one 30 odd years ago, so its time to relive my youth :D
The site looks great and Ive already picked up some excellent info. I have a few issues to sort out with the old girl, so hopefully I can then get her back on the road.
Anyway, heres a pic of her:

Welcome and nice looking bike. Very reminiscent of Vancouver Canuck colours of the same era.

Nice, and welcome mate. You'll find a lot of help for those models here.

I suggest starting with the link in my .sig, there's lots of maintenance checks to do, and it's best to assume the Previous Owner, no matter who that was, didn't do anything good to the bike.

Hi there fellow "Brit" Looks a real nice bike and in good condition.
I am fairly new to the site, but as previous comments, this is a great site and I have had a lot of help here.

Previously owned 2 x 750 Seca, Midnight Maxim 750, just loved them, am riding XJ700 Maxim X at the moment.

    Mike.

Suprisingly its 7 previous owners have not butchered it to much. The wiring is all good, it starts on the button, no smoke etc. I have a YICS tool and shim tool as well, so the clearances will be done.
The biggest issue is a front left caliper that has a chunk missing.
This may be related to a fork problem and previous owner issue.
I'll post about this in the relevant section now.
Thanks for the welcome and I will get a beer and start on the links :)
