cylinder bolts, plastic sleves?

does anyone know which of the twelve cylinder bolts have the plastic sleeves on.

it looks like the centre 4 exhaust ones have them, and maybe the one on the far right of the picture.
mine are non existant now, since stripping the engine.
I'm going to use heat shrink tubing to replace them, but which ones?
do any of the intake side ones have them.
I assume the oil feed ones on the right side dont have them.(that's the left side in the picture.)

Is that what that crustiness is? When I stripped my engine I took that as rust/corrosion, especially considering the amount of water in my engine. And especially considering one of my studs snapped when I removed the head. Thus, I removed all my cylinder studs and will simply glue the cylinder back onto the cases with JBWeld.

That's sheathing. I know I put fresh ones on, but can'remember which studs got them. Len knows. Check his catalog.

Sheathing goes on the 4 exhaust side, except the outside stud that contains the oil passage

Yeah it's too late in April for a good joke, plus I haven't been sleeping well lately. I did pull the studs out, but intend to replace them properly. JBWeld, bitch please...

 

Dude, we had a now-vanished member that drilled additional holes in his crankshaft to "lighten" it. Another took his motor completely apart to scrub everything clean with soap and water not realizing what was involved with reassembling it. Anything's possible.

 

I am rebuilding an engine that had over a gallon of rainwater in it when I pushed it into my garage, so I don't blame you for assuming the worst of me. :lol:

chacal lists the sleeves as a set of 5, so I assume that's the 5 on the exhaust side, exept the oil feed .
so I put 5 on the exhaust side and 5 on the intake side, as they are also exposed to the elements.
I used heat shrink tubing ,and it makes a real nice job



did a test fit of the barrels to make sure the sleeves don't foul anything
all seems well

How did you refinish your cases?

 

with many ,many hours of wire wheels ,wire brushes, scotchbirte, wet/dry paper
and this


no primer needed just spray onto bare cases
