Looking for a new tank for my xj550. Looking for other peoples input on what tanks if any will fit unmodified. There was only one real xj550 tank on ebay that I would take but for 200 bucks I figured I would get input from others who have been down this road. :?:

What is wrong with the old tank? Also is it a Seca or Max?

Why are you looking for different tanks other than an XJ? What style are you looking for?

The tank got dented bad in storage 4 inch dent on the top of the tank. I spent a week last year restoring and painting this tank, NOT doing that again. This spring I have spent a ton of man hours and money to get this thing tuned and running good. It now runs 100% and I would like to be at least presentable. Almost all the ebay xj tanks are in worse shape then mine is.
    Ps its a maxxim 8)

Is the metal around the dent creased, or just pushed in? You can seal the tank (plug the petcock and use a rubber plug for the filler) and put about 2-3 psi compressed air in it, then use a hair dryer to warm the metal and relax the dent out until it pops. A heat gun would be quicker but would flake your paint.

Well, there is a line in the middle, definetly not as bad as a crease. I feel like the line would be semi noticable after it was pulled but like I said no were near as bad as if there had been a major creas. That might just be a viable option as the tank selection(this far) is not good at all!
