Not bad for a dollar. They say it's all in the preparation anyway.
That being said, you better put a good clearcoat on it or it'll be ruined by the first drop of gas!

I placed this in a soda and electrolysis for a while it not only removed the rust but also removed the horrible gold paint job by the previous owner...I ended up getting bare naked steel tank, that is why I had to paint...any clear coat brand suggestions ?

SprayMax 2k clear coat. Two part clear in a rattle can. It's not cheap (about $20 on Amazon) but it does a good job protecting the paint.

And make sure you wear a good respirator with it, it's nasty stuff if it gets in your lungs.

I just clear coated my tank
wore a mask for the 1st coat
then got looking at it.. and did another coat
well I forgot to put the mask back on
    wow did I get high
then I wet sanded a bit aggressive in a spot and went down to the metal
suffice to say, I am buying an extra can
it would be worth the money to use two cans
they are cheapest on Ebay and have free shipping

    wear a mask or respirator!

What type of paint did you get and check and see if the clear is compatible or it could go terribly wrong.

I sell coatings and definitely recommend wearing a mask (charcoal filter at least) and have good ventilation; 2K products contain Isocyanates and it is not that great for you. Also be aware that the part B contains the Iso and gloves must also be worn. Not trying to freak anyone out just putting the "be careful thing out there" A charcoal filtered respirator will also stop the solvents from getting into your system and making you feel high. When you have finished spraying seal your mask in an airtight container and your filters will last a long time. :)

A can of clear coat engine enamel will work. Remember to wet sand first and in between clear coats.

Let it cure for quite some time before you spill some gas on it.

Beware I rattled my tank last year, I used krylon gloss and clear coat. 3 coats of clear were no match at all for 1 single drop of gas! I preped and dried the best I could.

The clear and paint has to be enamel to survive the gas, and yes it takes a couple days to fully cure.

It is possible to buy iso free hardener , not quite as good as the iso one but definitely better than one pack. Also be aware that enamel and acrylic are solvent based systems , while 2k is a chemical cure process . I have been advised that it is not good practice to combine the two., particularly 2k clear over enamel or acrylic. Having said that ,it is possible to use the iso free hardener with the 2k base and clear coat, with just normal spraying precautions. Isocyanates are neurotoxins , so the main issue is irreversable brain damage . It is recommended tha forced air respirators are used when spraying isocyanates .
    cheers , Murray
