    Hi all,

My name is Etienne, I'm 48 years old and from Belgium (Europe); After a 4 year pause of biking (& racing), I decided to get myself a relax ride to come back on the road... and I picked myself a XJ700 Maxim (air-cooled).
It's a 1985 Canadian bike, imported in The Netherlands in 1989, and I've just imported it in belgium.

I hope to find some interesting info downhere. Wish you all a good week,

    Etienne

    Welcome!

You can't just tell us you have a Maxim that has had residency in several countries, and not show us a picture of it! :D

I visited Bruges two years ago: it's a really cool city, and a lovely country. The climate is a lot like Ohio in many ways, I think.
    Welcome to the forums!

Very nice. Got that high sissy bar too, cool.

I thought 85 was the 700N version, and 86 was the 700S version. I could be wrong.

I had to write to Yamaha Canada about this bike (its country of origin), and according to chassis number, the said it is a XJ700S-R that has 72 HP at 9000 rpm.
They mentioned on the information that it is a '86 model, but the sticker on the frame says 7/85 and chassis number is JYA1NJ00 2 GA 000xxx

The model year is usually manufactured a year earlier, so your 86 should have labels that have 85 stamped on it. For instance, the brake hoses on my 82 had 81 markings all over them.
