My starter plunger (enrichment) valves have a small witness mark on the tapered business end of them.
Can they be cleaned up/ polished and re-used?

I guess that is a no.

I broke my piggy bank and ordered new from Len.

    Still curious.
I have access to a lathe and was thinking 600 grit emery removing about .003" to clean wouldn't jeaprodize the integrity of the plunger valve operation . . .

I had mine leaking a tad, and just used a scotch brite pad to polish the needles. The brass is so soft, you need to be careful going too far. Heck maybe 1500 grit at least. The seats are a bit more tricky, but can be accomplished by rotating a tiny piece of superfine emery in there a few times. You need to try your best to keep it at the right angle. The most important part is the little line made by the original contact point. That needs to go away, but just barely.

Are the carbs out? It's easier to clean when they're out and there's less chance of getting crap in that tiny hole.

    One more point...

If they're leaking a bit, I found out the little fingers which push up on the enrichment plungers had gotten mixed up in my rebuild process, and one of them wasn't allowing the plungers to seat all the way. Just take a look to see if this is the case before sanding anything.

    Thanks for the advice.
Carbs are out, broke from the rack.
I will polish the seat a little. New plungers are coming.
I labeled the fingers with a small etcher prior to disassembly.
Should be getting my rebuild kit from Len in about 7 days or so, got lots of pictures taken and (amazingly) still have lots of patience (it's riding weather!).

Wrote down how many turns it was to bottom out the mixture screws, hoping for a relatively smooth rebuild, synch and back in the saddle!

finish the plungers with 000 or 0000 steel wool. a bit of 000 on a q-tip does a nice job on the plunger well but blow it out good
