HELP! Any XJ mechanics near Reading PA?

    In need of someone who knows their way around a 1981 Maxim 650 who lives near Reading pa (north of Philly). My dad and I can usually fix anything but this particular bike is being quite a gremlin. It wont run good until the RPMs reach around 4000, then it hangs on high idle and slowly goes down. So im guessing its running lean. Did lots of carb work until I read about the importance of valve adjustment. I have almost zero gap if im measuring correctly and it appears the valves are tight... now is where me and my dad are out of our comfort zone. Anyone know any way to help? I love my bike and i don't wanna quit on it but im at my wits end. Thanks for your help guys, great site btw

    Welcome!

    Where to start? You'll have to fix the valve clearances. Start reading on this site. Do you have a manual? You can get parts from Len (user "Chacal" here) and browse his at catalog and information (check out he Information overload hour" post) by finding his XJ4ever section.
