I am rebuilding my front brake calipers an I'm about to reassemble, the outer "dust seal" that came in my kit has sort of a tiny lip on the one sides outter edge. Question is does that lip go up or down. I don't have my old ones, they're in the garbage. I'm thinking down. Thanks for any help

Are you asking about the outer piston seal, or about the dust boot for the caliper pin?

I don't recall the caliper seals having any lip on them.

The outer seal around the piston. It's a very small lip.the kit is for an xj750r seca.

If the lip is on the OUTER edge of the dust (or fluid) seal, it won't affect anything, since the outer diameter/edge of the seal sits at the bottom of the seal land in the caliper body, and never touches/interacts with the piston.

Wouldn't it keep the seal from sitting in the channel properly?

The 750 Seca uses essentially the same calipers as the 550s, I don't remember any "lip" on the three I've rebuilt so far...

Are you sure it's not just "molding flash" that needs to be trimmed off?

    How about a pic?

It fits fine, I should've investigated it more before I turned to you guys for help. I looked at one on my way out the door an then posted my question before I got back to them. It ended up being like an optical illusion cause upon more inspection when I got home, there really isn't a lip,it just looks like a tiny lip. So sorry guys but thanks so much!
