    I recently bought a 1982 Seca 550. I have been going through the basics
    of brakes, valve adjustment, chain ,tires etc..
    This is my 3rd XJ. I checked the brakes per the senior members advice on the first 2 and the shoes were fine. When I checked my new Seca's brakes
    I was shocked o see the extent of the delamination!
    Can you Imagine if I had been riding the bike when this happened!
    When I went to take the springs off the rear shoes the actual metal shoes just crumbled, because they were so brittle.

    Check out the photos at;

    The point is don't just say " this never happened on any bike I owned"
    Listen to the warnings the members give you. This includes brakes, brake lines, valve adjustments, tires etc.

    I appreciate all the advice I get from this forum!

    LOL, The PO rode around like this!!
    I have seen thin worn brake shoes before, but I never have seen the material on the shoe separate from the metal part like this!
