I finally got my XJ650J on the road and I'm loving it! I did notice a couple of times when I was pulling away a clunk noise. When I serviced the rear everything looked in perfect condition and it doesn't have any vibration as I would expect if there was something amiss. Should I worry about it or just ride the thing? I didn't see any metal in the gear oil either. Here is a link to my picasa if anyone is interested in looking at my bike adventures.

It may be worth looking into the condition of the u-joint. It's hidden under the rubber bellows that is between the end of the swing arm and the rear of the engine on the left side of the bike.

if you can't find anything obvious, it's probably the middle gear drive damper doing it's job. i've felt it, others have too, no one has found anything.
    ride it

Thanks guys! I'll check the u-joint as soon as I get home from vacation.
