well i got a few questions here.

first off i need a solenoid for a xj 650 since i think i fried the one i have.

ok now im looking for guides on turning the carbs. i started getting into it and i noticed the carbs are dumping a lot of fuel into the engine..
i mean it runs but i can see a mist cloud of gas being dumped into the carbs (i have the rear boots off)

i did find a guide or two but im looking for the whole deal like getting the float levels correct because im sure i got them set a bit high since fuel rolls out when it gets turned off after running.

i am also in search of parts like where to get the plugs, plug wires for the after market coil packs i have (yellow ones i forget the name)
and also i need a new adjustment screws for adjusting the mixture screw. the one that sits next to the choke since i messed it up a little when i drilled out the factory anti tamper plug.

what else? umm the individual air cleaners where one goes over each carb.
also where i can get the bigger needle valves themself because im looking for the most power i can get out of the engine. (engine isnt going to stay on a bike, its for a different project)

i also think im gonna need a guide for adjusting the shims that sit on the shim buckets and where i could pick them up at since i can hear a pretty good tapping sound coming from the valve area, also what tools i need.

thanks for anyone who can help some...

For what is going to best serve your needs ... I'd recommend an Official Yamaha Workshop Manual.

    http://www.yamahapubs.com/html/year.jsp?type=MC

    Everything you need to know.
    How to ...
    Charts
    Diagrams

And, complete appendix for sizes, limits, oversize machining and technical data.

(This going to power a Legends Racer?)

Aftermarket one from your local bike shop? They are all pretty much the same.

Rear boots off could be part of the problem?

Float levels are set using a piece of clear tube from the drains at the bottom of the carbs and seeing where the fuel level is compared to the outside of the float. There are a few post here with pictures, try the search function.

Any plug wire should do, try your local Auto Sparky.
Mixture screws try a Yamaha dealer or maybe shoot these guys a email:
    Carb rebuilders

Air cleaners, try a bike accessory shop. You are looking for ones with the right diameter.

Bigger needle valves (that would be the MAIN JET) or bigger Needles won't give more power just like that. Read this to see what is involved with jetting:
    Jetting help
But will probably be needed with filters that you plan on using and a less restrictive exhaust.

If the valves are not making any noise they might be over tight, they normally tighten rather than loosen.

Check the valves clearence like you would with a car and find out if they are in spec

    In 0.16-0.20 XJ650 RJ and XJ650(UK)
    In 0.11-0.15 mm All others
    Ex 0.16-0.20 mm

If out of spec you need to note each setting then see what size shim is in each one and get the correct shim to bring them back to spec.

Measure cold, back of cam lobe (pointy bit sticking up!).

Sorry Crew but all of your questions have been answered in previous thread posts. Please feel free to hit the search function (link on left side of the page) and dig up the requested data. If you have trouble finding what you need, holler, someone here will help you out.
Incidently, the manual and the XJCD will give you the ultimate in detailed information. They are the best investment you can make in your desire to maintain and repair your ride.
In our archives you will find plans for and instructions on how to use a carb fuel float adjustment rack, a real DITY gem. Home made sync manometers, YICS tools, just a few of the goodies housed here.
Come on in and browse about, you're bound to find gold here.
