Seems I may have gotten a bike with swapped forks.

Ok so I need fork seals on this new to me 81' 550 maxim. It has a very odd setup that from looking thru the pics here is not a stock setup. The brake lever has a cable that goes to the MC that is mounted lower on the fork tube by a make shift bracket. Then I have dual discs and anti dive forks. Soo how do i know what brake pads and fork seals to order. Is it possible to put a normal master cylinder/ lever setup on these forks?

You probably have Seca 750 forks, but post a pic so we can give you a positive ID.

    Link not working.
Let's play 20 questions. Is your bike chain driven, or shaft driven?

Is that the stock Seca MC configuration?

Seca 750 forks and MC on a 550. Why the 750 master cylinder is there is beyond me, other than it being sized for dual calipers. You can swap ove a conventional master cylinder from the Seca 650 (also sized for dual calipers) and get rid of that horrible bracket. Rebuild the forks using the 750 parts. An option for new brake lines will be a combination of the 750 lower lines (to the anti-dive), and custom lines for the rest since you have apes. Of course you could always get the correct fork for the bike.

You could just leave the MC setup the way it is, IF the bracketry was made well. The 750 master cylinder is supposed to reside on a bracket on the triple tree, behind the headlight.
It was put where it is for one of two reasons: 1. it wouldnt' fit behind the round headlight; 2. the OP kept the triple for the 550 rather than swap the tree from the 750, so the holes for the MC bracket are not present.

Chain driven, 6 speed according to the cases.

    Thanks Som1.

I have an 82' 920 virago midnight at my disposal for spare parts. That is the bike I would be swapping a MC from. I can't remember if it's
Dual disc I will check today since it's at work. It does have a
Rubber boot that goes over The lower portion the problem is the home made bracket is super ugly and being where it is the cable is too long. If it were inside the forks the cable would fit better. Plus the lever is bent and aluminum in color where the clutch lever is black.
