    Hey all,

I'm working on installing a digital gauge on my '82 Seca 550 and have never set up a Hall effect sensor before and could you some mounting advice. I've looked through Google and YouTube and haven't found much in terms out how the sensor gets mounted. Acewell's instructions are basically useless as well.

I searched the forums and went through a couple of threads that touched on installation but I've seen installations of the magnets on the brake rotor, on the rim... the sensor mounted straight up an down as well as with the end pointing toward the sensor and none of the threads I looked at really told me precisely how it's supposed to be mounted to be most effective. I also know I have to set it for the wheel diameter... but is that the actual wheel diameter or is it the distance from the center of the hub to the center of the magnet?

As you can tell I've never even seen one of these things before and am kind of at a loss for installing this thing. Can someone give me a breakdown of exactly how they're supposed to go on? (or point me in the direction of a thread I somehow missed?)

    Thanks

Mount the sensor vertical or close to it . The magnet should pass over either end
Of the sensor, not the middle. Magnet to sensor distance .25 to .5 inch.
You can get better magnets at home depot.
You input circumference of the tire, dab of oil on the tread, roll bike one tire revolution
,measure convert to mm. The oil should make o Mark on the floor to measure .
I mount the magnet on the rim and the sensor on a fender bolt

Awesome. Thanks for the reply. I'll be trying that this weekend.

Just out of curiosity, why do I set the circumference of the tire? It would seem to me that I could mount the sensor and magnet in the same spot regardless of the size tire and wouldn't it register the same? Or am I forgetting some of my basic math somewhere?

    Thanks.

the magnet /sensor only counts the number of revolutions of the tire, you need to know the circumference of the tire so you can calibrate it to figure out how fast you are going.

x number of revolutions per sec ,times Y distance traveled per revolution= (with other calculations/conversions made by the speedometer)z miles per hour

P.S input whatever measurement the speedometer calls for but try to get it 100% exact so that your speedo reads accurately.
