So, I've been having random issues here and there with my electrical system. I was just wondering if (like in a car) you were to remove the battery while its running should it keep running?

Do not remove the battery when it's running! Doing so can easily damage the regulator/rectifier.

Random electrical issues on these bikes are most commonly associated with:

    1. The corroded, brittle, clips on the original fuse box. Replace it with a modern ATO fuse box (Chacal has them).

    2. Bad connections on the Molex plug (bunch of white wires and some other wires) that connects to the regulator/rectifier. Clean them up or replace the plug and/or terminals.

When you clean that plug rub some dielectric graze into thefemale side when reconnecting ditto seal out moisture (it wont hurt the electrical connection)

I only ask because I recently rebuilt my starter and was in a hurry putting it back together. I forgot to tighten the battery bolts. 5 miles down the road it broke connection and the bike died.

PS the starter was full of "tar" type stuff thick and burnt smelling. That normal? I threw in some all purpose grease after the rebuild.

I've already replaced the fuse box. (First thing I tried)
