Hello - I have acquired an 1982 XJ Seca 750 - it has sat for over two years and has some good points and maybe some not so good -

The Really Good is - After putting fresh gas in the bowls and then the cleaned out tank it started up. Sounds solid, has clean title.

The Good is - newer tires and seat cover - no dents in the tank and lots of things seem to work. Clicks through the gears, brakes & clutch work...

The Not so Good is - obviously needs carb work - sometimes it revvs way up, like sticky throttle cable or carb parts(?) - Does not run smooth - needs carb work.

The Not Good - sometimes it revvs way up, does not run smooth. Speedo is said to not work, can't reset trip meter. Said to have bad fork seals. Rust, oxidation, Pacific Northwest moss build-up - has obvious exposure uglies...

Haven't ridden it yet - the sticky throttle issue does not inspire confidence.

I just spent two months sorting out a 79 KZ650 Cafe and it runs real good - but it was a pain it the foot to get it this far and I'm not interested in this bike (which would probably need more work) so... Can't decide - Sell this real cheap to someone who can fix it, make is safe, or just part it out - ?

What do you think ? Thanks

I can't see much of it in the video but that looks to be a pretty complete and original bike. Definitely worth saving. The motor sounds good and it even has the plastic guards on the handlebars. Once they are cut or parted out, they are gone forever. Save it. If I was a bit closer to you, I'd buy it.

Fantastic. You've saved a tidy bike. You can't control what the next owner will do of course but if you'll take $950 for it and ship it to Sydney with the import papers for $500, I'll give it a good home.

A couple of years ago one of my street track Triumphs went to Australia - I didn't have to do anything for him but to roll it on to a truck - he did the rest - I'd certainly be willing to do that again. Took a long time for him to get it, but he's happy - it worked out. I have no experience in doing more than loading the truck however !

Hey, I need another bike like a hole in the head but . . . I'll ask a question. I think it is more like $1500 to land one here from the US. There are plenty here but rare in nice original condition.

Yep, looks nice. How's the compression, carb, valves, brakes, forks, tires? got mine looking better except for tank and much less expensive and it still doesn't run for crap after a wealth of time and money.

get some details first prior to purchase but sell for as much as possible.

Thanks for your help my friends. I have sold the bike to a nice fella in the Bay Area of California - and more importantly, I've pointed him to this forum - you guys are great, and he's probably going to need your assistance>
