I am in the process of finishing up my XJ700 Bobber build. I am installing the Vapor gauge with the temp sensor, tach, and all that works. However, I am having an issue getting the neutral light to work. The shady wiring schematic in the manual sucks so I am having an issue figuring what wire to hook the ground for the light into. I realize that the switch is a grounding switch that just completes the ground circuit when the bike is in neutral. I see that the blue wire goes into the switch and then the switch grounds when closed but there is no label to what wire is the ground on the other side of the switch. How would you test the switch? I have the turn signal lights, and high beam working but I have to have a neutral to pass inspection. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated. I have created a custom harness inside of the headlight housing with some small fuse holders to take place of the fuse panel under the stock micky mouse gauges. What I can gather is that the switch is self grounded when screwed into the case and a single blue wire comes out which in turn runs into a sky blue wire, this goes into the diode and out to the light as a ground. Is this correct? If so I believe my switch is bad as I test the blue wire to the ground and get nothing on my multimeter.

if you can't make the meter change with the switch, the switch is bad.
your sure your in neutral and not between gears

That is what I figured. It was working when I took the engine out this winter but must have went bad or gotten stuck or something. I will fix it this winter. i am trying to finish this thing up so I can ride before the warm weather goes away but it seems like every time I move one step forward it pushes me three steps back. Now my shocks will not clear the fender I had made so I have to find some 12 - 12.5" shocks that will fit our bikes. So off to create a post on that now.
