Well guys ive been away for sometime now. I used to own a 82 xj650. then i sold it. now i want another. im looking for a xj750. i would like it to be in the under 900 range. that means that its not road worthy yet and would need some work done to it. i do live in the Va area. so if you got something please let me know. pics are always helpful. im not that big on having all the badges on the tank or scratches in the paint. id like it to turn over. thanks for reading and i hope that one of yall out there have something.

I know a guy in VA who was selling a recently road-rashed FJ1200? Bodywork is buggered, but it is still drive able as far as I know. Shame too, it was a pretty pretty bike. May not be what you are looking for, though.

Hey thanks for looking out. I'm trying to hold out for a xj750 but a xj might do the trick too.

As long as you're also in the mood to spend about $600 ~$800 resurrecting a 30-year old classic then you've got the right idea.

If you think you're gonna snag one cheap and maybe drop a couple hundred bucks into it think again. A whole lot of folks (including myself, I forgot about carbs X4=4X$) think that will work but it won't.

That basic budget assumes that you will be doing the work and doesn't include cosmetics. And there will be some serious man-hours involved.

If you're up for the reality of it, then the outcome can be very rewarding: Having a nice solid 30-year old bike to ride. Trying to shortcut or short-fund the process only leads to frustration.

If you're ready to "go big" then go for it. Anything less will only lead to headaches and hassles. It ain't a used car.

i payed 450 for my aircooled xj700 it had been sitting outside under a tarp for years... i also got 150 compression evenly out of each cylinder. bought a tank 75dollars (rusty tank) battery, tires 150 dollars. oil changes, handgrips, original handlebars rear brake shoes so im in around 900-1000$ after title and registering fees.

I've done this once before with a xj650. This very site helped me gain the know how for everything xj. I don't know how many times I tore my carb apart putting them together and doing a resink with and without the yics tool. This site is one of the main reasons that I like the xj, that and the fact that the matince and up keep is easy. I spent 350 on my first and it kinda ran .then with the help of this site I got it running great then sold it. I know that what I ask is completely doable.
