Hey guys - first post here. I've looked through other threads and can't find an answer. Here's my dilemma - I picked up a 1984 Maxim 750 which was not running. PO said it needed a battery and a headlight. Maybe so but the wiring is a mess. I picked up the owner's manual but it really isn't any help. Can you guys give me any direction as to what is the minimum wiring needed just to see if it will crank. A lot a loose wires and don't want to blow out an expensive electrical component. Thanks.

The owners' manual isn't going to help for wiring. The service manual will. The Haynes manual includes accurate diagrams for all early to mid '80's XJs.

Search the forum for minimal electrical to find one or two diagrams people have posted (note that those diagrams eliminate all safeties and aren't legal in many places since they don't include a horn.)

Thanks SQLGuy and Hamster. I'll check into that. If you find any other links or simplified wiring diagrams, let me know. I'm just making sure it turns over for now.

I bought a wire harness for my Seca 750 off E-Bay for $15.00

It cured all my electrical problems in one go.
