    Hi All

after a few weeks prep (well hours really but spread over weeks) it was time to start the 'dry build to see what's missing.. Here we start..

Add some wheels, swing arm, old scrap shocks, old make do tyres, the handle bars that were supplied as part of the kit - don't look right to me - and get this far..

But something's not quite right - is this the right spacer for a euro seca.. wide end fits the bearig seal OK although it is a bit pitted..

And how come my rear spindle sticks ou this far ? nothing missing from what I can tell..

    Cheers

    bike pics

    Any good ?

I can't stand this IT stuff - should be easy to share a phone photo without having to email to myself then upload to some hosting site becasue Picasa on my phone is duff. Ended up emailing pics to forum members direct last time I tried this too.. sigh..

So I have found that to attach pic that I've taken with my Android smartphone I had to download a free pic resize app. Then resize pic to 500x500 then use that file to upload. Its very easy and takes just an extra second to do. I use photo resizer

Something is not right in the rear; either you have an incorrect axle (possible) or something is indeed missing in "the stack."

Despite the diameter difference, your rear wheel/brake setup should be the same as in the USA-market 550s.

Take a close look at this article; it may provide a clue to a possible missing piece: http://xjbikes.com/Forums/viewtopic/t=35134.html

BF- Thanks for the links (and the work that went into them)

I'm pretty sure that the rear is good and the shaft/spindle is too long - which is easily remedied. The bearing replacement guide is handy though as I'm sure they will need doing..
Th front assy is a bigger worry to be honest. I have a query over the spacer I used. Hopefully forum member fatnfast will send me a UK/Euro parts PDF soon so I can check..

So did you get a smaller rear ? I knew the maxims were smaller but the secas too ?

    Cheers

The USA-market 550 Secas have straight-spoked wheels and a smaller drum rear brake, the same brake as on the 400s.

The USA-market 550 Maxims have swirly wheels and a larger rear brake, the same as yours on the "swirly-wheel" Euro 550 Secas.

That looks like a USA market Seca rear wheel. The spokes look straight. Post a pic of the other side of the rear axle. You might have the wrong spacer on it causing the axle nut to go on too far.

UK parts list is on its way to you. :D

Dont forget CMSNL does parts lists, although not specifically for our UK model. However, as yokes, forks and wheel size on the SECA are the same as our UK bikes (bar a missing disc and different spokes), much of the info can be used just fine.

For hosting pics I use Irfanview free down load. Its simple to use and you can resize the pics easily.

To host I use photobucket. Again free and you can cut and paste the html tag thats with each uploaded picture (resized in Irfanview), straight to a forum.

It might be a good idea to check the spacer on the right between the brake plate and the swingarm. The one on the USA-market 550 Secas does NOT have the same part number as the one from the 550 Maxim; so it is likely a different length.

Somebody with a Euro-spec XJ550 will need to provide that size.

I'm betting it's an oddball axle.
