    Hi,

My son and I are working on a 1981 XJ750.

I need to verify cable routing. The current route causes the throttle to rev or drop depending on which way the handlebar is turned. I think it is because the cable is broken near the handlebar and the new one won't do that but he wants to check routing.

Second, we have no idea what the float level is. I know it may be different for different jets but I don't even know where to start and since the engine smokes when it is run, we know it's running rich.

We also have to work on the front brake system and can't find a lot on that. I saw the CD but have never been able to figure out how to order it.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thank you.

    Steve and Chris

Have you cleaned the carbs? Check your valves? Many write ups in both. Breaks too. I have been able to download a PDF manual that I found on a site for my bike. Also use the search feature on this site it works well. You can google your problem too and it will have this site in your search.

It's fuel level rather that float, jets don't affect the level AFAIK, connect a clear poly' tube from the drain & secure it up the side of the body, when you fill the bowl the fuel should be 2 mm below the bowl gasket line, fiddly job, of & on with the bowls & adjusting the 'tang'.
