well. as many of you may have read. my xj was stolen 20 some days ago. left with only a bicycle for transportation i was quick to find a new motorcycle.

i just finished getting my new cb650sc nighthawk ready for the road.

there she is.. changed all the fluids, put on new tires, got a new battery, all the crap. this sucker has hydraulic tappit lifters. and a hydraulic clutch.(which was filthy inside.)

    all clean now though.

picked up the new mounted wheels one at a time on my bicycle.

and bought a new big ass lock with 15mm links. it comes with a 2000 dollar one year warranty if anyone cuts through it and steals my property.

i keep coming back and looking through the forums. probably the best motorcycle forum on the internet. thanks for all the info guys.

if anyone has any suggestions for a nice forum for my new bike let me know.

Nice looking Nighthawk. Don't think you have to leave the forums because your XJ was stolen.

I think like 85% of stolen vehicles find their way back to the owners. Maybe that's just cars? not sure, but don't give up, Might've just been used as a temporary runner. You know, they'll hold up a few liquor stores then drop it off somewhere. Got my Honda Civic back with minimal damage. It was full of juice packs for the kids and their school books. Some woman drove her kids to school in my car until it ran out of gas then dropped it off.

A quick note: Honda brakes taught me about delamination. You might want to just replace the rear shoes as a precautionary measure.

Good luck, there is a reason they made the Nighthawk for so long, you should have a great time with it.

I don't get a one year warranty on a lock, so after one year if someone cuts the lock it shouldn't have been expected to work past that date?

Yeah, don't leave........If you do, you're taking all the knowledge that you've acquired with you. Then we'd have to file a report the someone stole a lot if information from us. You wouldn't want that now, would you?

Seriously, though......you don't need to go-- we're still here, and who knows.....you're bike may actually show up here and you could recover it!

That's a good point. How good was your maintenance? Perhaps we can expect to find someone from Portland who just picked up a new XJ and needs some help.

I owe you a thank you.

I recently called to get insurance on the 82 Maxim I bought and am working on. Because of reading your awful news I asked about full comprehensive coverage and cost. Maybe everyone knows this about insuring older bikes but I didn't. I have Progressive Insurance Co. They told me that because of the age of the bike it doesn't have an "insured value" - and asked what I wanted it insured for. Full comprehensive with $ 1500.00 stated value ( with $500 deductible so $1000 back if wrecked/stolen) was ZERO extra cost ! Zero difference than basic liability cost. For $1 more - yes one dollar a year - I could insure it for $ 2000. Which I did.

I hope your Nighthawk treats you well !

bendoza if you have not already found it, there is a great forum for nighthawks (almost as good as this site) but no reason to leave this site.

keep the chain up off the ground, that way they can't use the ground for leverage for bolt cutters.
on a sour note, i researched those once and the early ones were bored 550's and that made the head gasket a weak spot

20 days isn't long in the lives of thieves.
I sincerely hope that it still finds its way back home to you.
    Keep bugging 5-0 about it.

Nice bike. I had a 1974 cl 360 Honda and a 550 four. I like both bikes till I got the 1981 650 maxim. Kept the maxim 20 years!

Sorry to hear about the Midnight.
There is also the hondacb650,com site though we do not get many of the DOHC N'Hawks. Mostly the SOHC 650.
