    hi everyone im jordan im from missouri and i just picked up a 1980 xj 550r from a buddy who is giving it to me if i build his bike. anyayws i just wanted to introduce myself and show u guys the bike and ask some questions.

    the wiring harnes is cut and chopped to hell and its not getting spark. so i baught a wiring harness on ebay and am going to install it but is their any other common things that would cause this to not get spark?

    You need to verify what model bike you have there. That is not an XJ550R. You may have bought the wrong harness. The 550 was made from 81 to 83. It was also a chain driven bike. Your bike appears to be a shaftie.

    I think we've seen this bike before and the last guy also thought it was a 550.

    It's a pre-YICS ('80 or '81) 650 Maxim.

    Better match the title number to the frame number on the head tube.
    -The 550r engine has a more squared-off valve cover and it has YICS cast on it
    - the front rotor would be in the right side
    - the tank would scalloped
