Hey everyone, just joined today. I'm getting my Maxim 650 next week. I believe it's an 84, but something tells me 82. Anyway, No pictures yet, But I will post some.

My brother had it for a while and tore it down, and fixed everything, and the famous rare-start problem was solved. Not sure what he did, but it starts first try now, and runs like a top. Used to have to use quick start all the time, and jump start it, or just leave it parked.

Anyway, real nice forum here, and I hope to find some fellow riders here in Ontario (I saw the thread) And hopefully get some tips on parts!

    Thanks everyone.

    Welcome aboard!

Ontario is a big place. You could be right next door to us Detroiters or half a continent away. Please put your city in (all you other Canadians too for that matter).

I've been bugging him to join the fray, he seems to have other priorities right now. Oh, you meant Mixam. Sorry.

    Thanks guys!

My brother is just very mechanically inclined. Used to have a Honda 650 dirt bike... The bike is actually my Dad's, and since he has no use for it, it's going to me.

I live in Picton. Im also on the GTAMC(Greater Toronto Area Mustang Club), and there are a few members down in London.

My dad knows what year it is, but I keep forgetting. I have an 84 Supra in my driveway, so it makes me forget what the Maxim is.

Anyway, thanks for the welcome eh.

Good to see you here Mixam..I was one of the lucky ones too who purchased their bike in good running condition from the start.

Yeah, while these xj's are (apparently) extremely reliable, they seem to require regular maintenance. It think the main problems after sitting for a while is carb build up and rubber deteration.

Well the "MM" isn't an official designation from Yamaha anyway, but it certainly could stand for Midnight Maxim

Is your bike almost completely black with gold accents?

    If so - that's it!

Yep, Just has a green tint to the paint. Gold letters, chrome everywhere, sweet tailpipes.

Is the Midnight Maxim anything special?

That's a good lookin' bike. I really like to looks of the 650 Maxims, they have that retro appeal. I keep getting great comments about mine. Personally I think they look better than the more modern Vtwins... but thats me.

    Drive safe.

Looks to be in nice shape. Just a bit of TLC and she'll look perfect! I'm fond of the Maxim line, they just look fun to ride. Get her tweaked and optimized, those bikes have great character!

yeah, thats my fault lol... I just have to put a couple things back where they belong, and it actually looks organized. It was alot worse before. I can fit 2 pushmowers, my bike, and the tractor in there now. Before, I could barely walk through it without tripping over something. That's with no mowers in it, and no bike.

I've got 2 months ahead of me of no riding time (licence suspended - I'll explain later) so I should be able to get lots done to it to get it cleaned up. I'm happy with how it performs. A set of new grips are in order, and a new windshield, and then new paint. Should be fun.

Here's a nice little clip of it revving and idling. http://videos.streetfire.net/video/3145 ... 2e8bbe.htm

Excuse the "wind chatter", it's a very loud bike. Thats a header set that was put on. My Dad bought it from a guy who couldn't fit them on his bike, and he was going to throw them out. Little did the guy know, you have to "stretch" the pipes apart to fit them on... Anyway, that's my baby!
