so I was reading a thread here about tires and decided to look up my codes. Now before I looked them up I already knew that the tires needed replacing and that the PO prolly hadn't cared much based on the amount of tire wear. Ok so without further delay I present you with DOT cpxk axam 437
    and
    cpa1 ayal 278

    so yea 1987 and 1988

ill post picks of before and afters later

So..... You're saying your current tires are a couple days older than Jesus...

I'd stop riding until they're fitted bud, just to be safe. Not worth the risk esp where you just fixed it up!

And you're splitting lanes on 30 year old tires? 8O

Dude, seriously. Pump the brakes here. If you're going to ride "on the edge" your equipment shouldn't be on the edge of failure.

News flash: Ignorance is NOT bliss; but it certainly can kill you.

You have replaced the equally old brake lines and M/C and caliper seals, right?

hehe I'll photograph them when I finish on Sat.
getting them from Hudson Cycles and Service. They have a deal right now where you get the front tire for free.

In other words, "no; I'm splitting lanes with 30-year old tires AND original brakes."

PAY ATTENTION: You need to get serious here or you're gonna get dead.

Lane-splitting is questionable behavior at best; and now we're hearing you're riding around treating a 30-year old bike like it's a used car. IT'S NOT.

The rules are different when it comes to motorcycles; a simple mechanical failure can kill you. Not so much with a used car.

You're not the least bit serious about what you're doing or you certainly wouldn't be doing it with marginal equipment.

I've managed to survive 46 years on street bikes; even at my "advanced age" I still commute on my 550 into and out of Detroit, 60 miles each way. A major part of staying alive is having solid equipment.

You don't. Honestly, I wouldn't ride that bike at all until it had new tires and new brakes.

You're actively courting disaster. Please stop; park it until it's safe to ride. I hope we never get to say "I told you so."

Rebuilding the brakes is easy so if you're apprehensive about being able to do this, don't be. Just take your time and don't be afraid to ask questions. :)

And the upgrade to SS lines is phenomenal. You'll never thought your brakes could be that strong.

    it is next believe me!
I will be asking plenty of questions. Especially in the brakes bleeding dept. I really suck at doing that.

EDIT: I just put in for a quote for the break rebuild parts :)

New TIRES, NEW BRAKE LINES (just the rubber ones all I could afford right now) Cali inspection showed A-OK with 95 pads on front MC inspection it's fine just needs new site window. back Brakes fine and dandy at 70% pad of use. Re-adjusted...Brakes are way good and grip is AMAZING I think I was just floating along the pavement before.
