    Hi!

This is my first post. This summer I bought a XJ900F 1985 in good shape. Last thursday I did a lowsider in low speed (approx 10-20 km/h) and some parts broke. Worst part to get seems to be the engine cover on the side. Probably it is more owners than me that have crashed and the cover brakes.

I have searched around the net an hopefully have got my hands on one, but if I fail I start this thread in advance.

    Broken cover:

I have seen similar covers that have DOHC instead of YICS. I presume that it is something with Double Overhead Camshafts or similar, but I am not sure.

On what model are that cover normally fitted?

Also, is this cover the same also on smaller engines, could be the same engine but different cylinders.

Hopefully you understand my questions, english is not my natural language as I live in Sweden.

That same cover is fitted to all versions of the XJ650, 750, 700, and 900, beginning in 1982. The YICS emblem is avaliable from a vendor here if you are only able to find a cover with the DOHC emblem on it.

The XJ900 cover is 2 alloy pieces separated by rubber - to absorb vibration?? Very rare, although the covers K-Moe listed will all bolt-on.

    I bought a right-side cover from E-Bay and was shipped a left-side.
So, I fixed my broken one by filling-in with JB-Weld and painting the grey epoxy silver. You can hardly tell.

Thanks for the information about which models the cover is mounted on.

Timetoride, it is a lot to fill in. I forgot to pick up the broken part from ground and when I came back I couldn't find it. In my case I have to fill up all part missing.

One question, do any of you have crash bars or similar? Pictures? The reason I ask is because I am not planning to crash again, but you'll never know if it happens again. As this cover is at a bad place it might only need one lousy tipping aside to make it go to pieces.

I know it will make the bike look less neat, but it is a good insurance I believe. And also might foot easier come loose under the bike at a crash. This time I got a nasty swagging in my foot as it was crushed under the bike.
