Hey every one so ive been gone for a while. havent had much time for my bike recently, as my wife and I just had a baby boy!

but i have been trying to get the bike up and running again so that i could try to sell it. but a big problem im having right now (besides finding the time to work on it) is that the fuel tank wont open. not at all. no matter how hard i push down on the cover and turn the key!

Am i going to have to drill this thing out?? i had this problem before and was able to get it by pushing down but now it wont budge.

use some kind of penetrating lube. if that won't work, the easiest way to open it is by jamming a flat blade screwdriver in it and turning it with a pair of vice grips. works every time. then you can replace it with a serviceable unit.

i feel like once i get it open i will still have a problem of my tanks opening not being as round as it should be. last time it happened i tried to reshape it a bit in hopes that it wouldnt happen again but i guess that didnt work so well.

I'd agree.... Soak it full of it kroil and keep gently working it til it loosens.

If you drill it you can open it but have to replace the innards...

no risk of deforming the tank. all you would be doing is turning the lock cylinder in the cap, much like the key is supposed to. from your first post though, I would assume that the key you have used to open the cap. meaning the lock pins are gummed up and need loosening. I would start with carb cleaner then go to an oil based penetrant like kroil or the like. the carb cleaner should get you working though.
