Why doesn't the members map show any markers ?

There are 944 member markers......yet we have 15,795 members here in this forum...we need more participation by our members to indicate where they live in the world.....

That way we can at least find other riders in your local area.....

So, let's promote the members map & at least get it up & running correctly...

    anyway,

I'm in South Los Angeles. Baldwin Hills.

Guys, snosheriff would admit that this site is running on stable yet antiquated code.

I figure that goes for the map as well, although probably not so stable :). I had a look around the phpbb site and there's not too much available for a user map. I agree it's nice to leverage our accounts here for these user maps but I imagine that it never worked well in the first place and that's why we only have a fraction of the members on it.

Anyone else find it frustrating to navigate?

awhile ago, long while. i read something about google changing their map program.
if you look on the map page you see this
"Dragonfly Google Maps Developed By Ronin Technologies"
if you go to Ronin on the second page at the bottom the Dragonfly program
updated in 2007........2007 is like the pyramids in the software world, lucky it works at all, well it doesn't but you know what i mean

I wondered if Google might have changed something that broke the DF Maps add-in. The DF Maps add-in looks like it's the latest version (0.9.9.2) and it was updated in 2008. To your point, that makes it pretty old software. I e-mailed the developer earlier today to ask if he might know why we can't see member markers.

Heard back today. "Yeah, they completely changed their API (again)."

'They' refers to Google. This guy has it working on his site but said something about needing to finish "the new GPS aspects" so he hasn't made it available yet. He said it's not high on his priority list, and as a 6-year-old extension to a solid yet dated content management system, I'm not surprised.

Maybe we could take some donations to 'elevate' this on his priority list... I liked the member's map.

Ahem...good members aren't the only people watching this site. Lotta' trolling going on. People steal bikes (all kinds of ways to do so including KNOWING OUR EXACT LOCATION and following our post to learn our schedules). Good members need some sort of protection. In a perfect world the member map would be great. The world is not perfect; never has been; never will be. Imo post a thread asking fellow members near you for PM replies.

Agreed, it's not a perfect world. Sigh. But you don't have to put your exact location on the map (or use it at all). I used the center of my town as my location.

I still think it's nice to know who's in the approximate area; XJ Bikes is a great virtual community but it's good to see a real live XJ'er from time to time, or maybe set up a ride.

Maybe then it could be pretty handy if the map was not a map but in the form of a list sorted by country, state and then XJBikes handle. Members in the same state could then send them a Personal Message to see if they are close and maybe create their own group for parts or rides. That then doesn't reveal the location and puts people in touch if they want to be in touch. It could create a lot more interest and support. Whadyathink?

    Something like this:
    Australia ACT abc _biker XJ900
    Australia ACT xyz_biker XJ550
    Australia VIC 123_biker
    . . . .
    England Devonshire uk_biker1 XJ650
    England Sussex uk_biker2 bicycle
    . . . .
    United States CA usa_biker1 XJ650
    United States WA usa_biker2 XJ700

I agree with the concept of it. I like to leave my door open to other XJers, whether you are on a road trip or just a ride. I've got a perfectly good couch if anyone is passing through Columbus Ohio and need some rest.
