I have an 83 xj650 and it needs rebuilt because it has been sitting for the last 10 years and moisture got into the cylinder head and rusted and corroded everything! What I was wondering is if I'm going to tear the motor apart I might as well replace a majority of the equipment! So I was wondering does anybody know of a company that makes o.e.m. or aftermarket parts like pistons and rings?

XJ4ever has almost everything you need. Click the link at the top of the forums. If you cant find it directly, PM chacal and ask. They are an awesome resource for these bikes.

Worst case scenario, you can search eBay. Check with XJ4ever first.

    Here is a parts diagram.

    Just google search the parts.

    EDIT:

When you click on a diagram the parts are labeled. Find the one you want. Mostlikely it'll say out of stock, however hit more info, and you'll get a product number. Bingo - search that into google.

    For example,

I clicked on Carburetor schematic. Number 6 is a diaphragm assembly. ( Pretend I need that. ) It is in Euros, but you just want the part number. Hit more info. It'll say Product number: 4H71494000, and this item is no longer available. Google search the product number. You'll find a lot of the parts are inactive ones, and are discontinued. However ebay does regularly list their parts with a product ID. I found This on the first page.

    Anyhow goodluck!

All the above is good info. But be prepared to pay !

From your 'Andy Capp' avatar I'm guessing that's winchester, Hants - right ?

I got a full set of rings for a 600 but they came from US and still cost 100 USD. plus shipping, duty etc..

Sad to say it but often it's better to get a spare engine to rob from or use as is. But beware of that too as I bought two engines cheaply that were also affected by moisture so you really need one that's 'fresh out' - not been standing ..
