    Hello all,

Well I finally was able to take a real ride on my new to me 1982 XJ650RJ this past weekend!

I bought it from the original owner last December and was amazed at just how nice of a condition this bike was in when I got it! The only thing I really had to do was to repaint the motor, as the PO was such a fanatic about cleaning that he used to use carb cleaner to clean it! DOH!!

Well anyway, I stripped off the exhaust, carbs, and air-box, and repainted the motor with PJ1 Gloss Black Case paint. This turned out to be a great match! After I painted it I replaced all of the acorn nuts (and washers) holding the head on, and then sanded down the outside fins. The exhaust was in near perfect condition and all I did was to give the bike a real deep cleaning and change all of the fluids, and install new tires.

The bike went back together as easily as it came apart and Saturday I was able to put about 50 miles on it. It just runs so great it is kind of scary! I haven't even had to re-sync the carbs, it just starts, and runs superb!

The bike is classic 80's UJM,and sounds great and is easy to ride.

    Cheers, Phil

Great lookin' machine, love that look. The Black/Silver on the engine is classic.
I bet you got a lot of jealous looks on your ride.

You should resize one of those pics & use it as your avatar. I vote for the engine pic

Beautiful, and thanks for the heads-up on the paint. I want to do the same for my Turbo.

Another question on paint, does anyone know what is a good match, and sticks well to the forks? The Turbo forks are black.
