In a near future, I'd like to move the website to a new forum software. In preparation for the official site migration, I copied the existing forum and created a QA testing environment. The TEST environment is totally fresh and the content will be wiped before the official site migration... Please give it a try and report issues/bugs back here in this thread .

***Edited post production migration to remove the QA Test link***

    It's so... new.

Our avatars are on the right, with our profile info; but our signatures are on the left kinda where they've always been but now they aren't obviously "related" to our avatar/profile (had to look around to figure out where sigs went.)

It is definitely different.....it seems to have everything there. But I do notice that the xj4ever banner/link is not there, and I miss the scrolling list of most current topics, plus the 'shout' box. Otherwise, it seems to be just a matter of having to get used to the new look and location of things. I imagine you're still building things into it, so I'm not surprised that a few things are on yet.......

Having the miniature main menu again would be nice, and the User Info pane would be a big help again. I had to search all over to find where my inbox is now, and if there were any pm's waiting for me.

Currently the primary goal is to migrate the historical data and ensure that the core forum functions work. Functions such as reply to threads, create new threads, have access to the right forums.

The rest can be worked on after. Adding functionality, font size, colors, logo, banners, adjusting the look and feel...

    Yes, it will be different.

As a relatively new guy here the most important thing to me is the historical info. I have been reading threads and bookmarking them if important. While I hate losing the the quick and easy bookmarks, it would be devastating to lose this wealth of information completely! This site is pretty much the worldwide XJ compendium so as for features or conviences, great, just don't lose the past info and data!

Yes, migration of the data is #1 priority. If you are bookmarking threads in your browser bookmarks then that's probably not the best approach. You bring up a good point tho. At the bottom of each thread you can click "Watch this topic for replies". I just checked the test site and the good news is that this migrated over :).

I don't think phpBB3 will be the final site software. Right now I'm leaning towards XenForo. So, phpBB3 is just a staging step, that's why I say don't get hung up on the look and feel for now. We aren't ready for that yet.

I can't reiterate just how important this data/info is.
I have a '86 Suzuki GSXR-750 Limited. There were somewhere between 300 & 500 of these Bikes built worldwide as factory SuperBikes. Parts are non-existent, info is difficult to come by but what is available is on a single forum. Without that forum these bikes would mostly bike garage ornaments.

The same applies here. There is an abundance of info here that keeps histical Bikes running. Thanks for building and maintaining this site!

How does one "Mark All Topics read" on the new forum? I cannot find the button or drop down menu.

Nevermind, its in the upper left hand corner now.

Is everyone else having such a hassle with their password?!?!?! First it told me it was wrong, then it told me I missed the "chekpac" or something like that, then I had to reset the password, after several tries it FINALLY went through......grrrrrrr.

Now my avatar says I'm a New Member.........I want my status back.

    end of gripe session.

Now, to go find out if my new password works..........lol

I'd assume that there will be a "New Content" section which lists all threads ordered by most recent first that would even better replace the "last 10 topics" scroll. Pretty typical on most forums these days I feel :)

Yeah I had to reset mine. I'm glad you had issues too, I thought I had just forgotten my pasword and was trying damn near every password I've ever used anywhere it seemed haha.

Reset it though and all is swell now.

And it says I'm a new member too, back to square one I guess haha.

The one thing that I am pretty bummed about is losing all my bookmarks to threads where people posted how to's and threads that I bookmarked knowing that sometime down the road I'd like to be able to access that info.

Is there any way to still have all of the content viewable under the old bookmarks but in an archived format? I feel that I've come across some differently formatted xjbikes archives in the past as a result of google searches. You can't reply/pot on the thread but you can at least still see what was there at the time.

That would be really really cool as I have to imagine I'm not the only member or person who has a bunch ton of xjbikes bookmarks.

If it costs extra $$ I'm down to donate to a "active archive fund"

One other thing I realized, did all of our avatar's get downsized?

The avatar original ratio is visible if you click on your picture, however, the avatar itself, and the full-shaped pic have definitely lost a lot of the resolution quality.

In my profile in the previous site, I had access to all the posts I personnally started, is it possible to get this back? Same for the messages in my Inbox.

    Thanks for the good work!

Can the "watch this thread" button be moved out of the More Options button and into the first line of buttons?

Overall I'm finding where things are now, just have to start memorizing new positions---
    A couple other observations.....

    1. Where is my gallery?
    2. When we start typing into the Reply box, the words "write your reply" do not disappear.... They make a mess of the first several words ...

You can find it. Go to your profile page, "Postings" tab and look at the bottom for "Find all threads by quebecois59". In the Inbox (or "Conversations") there are options at the bottom to <show only conversations started by <user>". Looks like the savebox from the old site was grouped in here as well.

There isn't a post count, either.
There is a post count, just not displayed with your avatar in the forums, it seems.

Cool that we can paste pictures in the reply box!

I don't have this issue. May be browser-dependent. Works fine in Firefox v 32.0.1

Biggest issue that our forums have a bunch of links to other forum posts that are now broken. :(

Thank you, Snosheriff, for what must have been a big job.

The search feature works great for bookmarked topics. For example I had recently bookmarked "XJBikes.com/Forums/XJBikes Talk/XJ FAQ Suggestions/Weird no spark condition"
So if you type the topic "Weird no spark condition" as keywords and check search titles only it will return that exact post.

There is likely a better way, but doable if you need to refresh on a topic for reference.

Edited to use a smaller file example
