So I have an 81 xj750 I recently got it running really good. I replaced the old box air filter with pods. I took the vent hose that runs from the crankshaft cover to the old air filter and just ran it so that it was facing down just behind the starter. So I was running it today, just letting it idle by itself to get things working. Then I reved it a bit and all of the sudden oil came spraying out of the vent hose. A lot of it! Then i tried reving it again and it did the same thing. So I shut if off. I have no clue what the problem could be. I have the crankshaft cover off right now and I dont see any problem. Did I add to much oil to the bike? Please help me!

    Thank you so much

Sniff the oil. Does it smell like gasoline?

Where is the oil level on the sight glass? You should have put in 2500cc (2.6 quarts) with a filter change, so there is just a bubble showing at the top of the sight glass.
It is very possible that the oil spat out because of how you have the vent tube routed. It can be replaced with a length of hose from an auto parts store, and a filter that will fit that hose. Route it along the frame rail so that it sits up under the seat.

Well I know for a fact the oil sight glass was completely full.

So reroute it so that it is pointed more upward instead of downward? And add a filter. I will try that out and see what happens.

    Thank you

The sight glass being completely full shows a crankcase that is over full. There is an upper oil level mark cast into the clutch cover. With the oil at that mark there will be visible air space at the top of the sight glass.

    Also....pods equals problem..
......does your bike run ok now.
....it may require re-jetting....as you now have change the air/fuel ratio in relation to the size of the Jets you are using.....time will tell...
