Hi there. The previous owner had started putting a different set of Yamaha controls on the bike. I like them better than the stock ones (which I have).

Now, he had cut off the plugs from the old controls and spliced them onto the new controls matching up the colours. This has worked, as pretty much everything I can see worked out. The bike starts, the signals work, horn, etc... But the headlight does not. There are a Blue/Black wire and Red/Yellow wire coming from the right hand control of the original that are not coming out of the new one. If I hook those up from the old control the headlight works. Without them it does not work.

The blue/black from the control is sort of a junction, that plugs into a blue/black coming from the left control and the bike. The red/yellow connects to the same coming from the bike.

How can I go about making this work? I have not been able to make any sense of the wiring diagram to figure it out. Any guidance you guys might have would be greatly appreciated.

There are two sets of contacts in the starter switch for a 750x. When you push the start button one set closes to start the bike, the other set opens to remove power from the headlight. The wires Red/Yellow and Blue/Black are the wires that control the headlight. When the starter button is released the contacts close shorting the Red/Yellow and Blue/Black sending power to the headlight switch. Removing power from the headlight when starting reduces a considerable load on the battery. Seems there are only two choices, get a control that matches the function, or short the Red/Yellow and Blue/Black together, in which case the headlight will be on whenever the key is on.

Awesome, that did the trick! I'll have to see if the additional load of the headlight being on while starting causes any issues with starting. I understand this bike requires quite a bit of juice to start, so hopefully it won't be a problem considering it's a brand new battery.

    Thanks a bunch!
