New to the forum, but sure happy I found it. Would like to compliment some of the members for their great information that they provide. I would not have found the issue without some helpful info. Anyways, I got hold of a neglected 1981 XJ650 that was in running condition. Rusted all to hell but I felt that it would be a good winter project for me. Living in Alberta, Canada the winters are far too long to sit around. Prior to finding this site, some local experts suggested that the shifting issue it was having was definitely clutch related. Wrong - changed oil - clutch pack etc., but still would not shift consistently so I pulled the side cover off of the shifter side and low and behold the torsion spring was broken. Would appreciate any help in finding a replacement spring in Canada. Did find a parts #90508-29530-00 or HCP5151. Thanks in advance.

The first number is a Yamaha part number. The second is Chacal's stock number. Who is Chacal, you ask?

A guy by the name of Len, from Atlanta. Runs a business called XJ4Ever. Hell of a guy. Ships anywhere. Does it quickly. His parts catalog can be found in the forums. Send him a PM (private message) here, and he'll get back to you in no time.

And speaking of which, you'll be wanting HCP5150, for the 650/700/750/900. HCP5151 is for the 550/FJ600.
