Hey Joe - greetings from Sioux Falls! Looks like you got a good start on it there, man. I'm glad to see you got the broken stud situation sorted out & looking forward to seeing your progress.

The new controls look good - what did they come off of?

I ordered the new controls from Dimecitycycles.com I will be relocating my ignition switch down by the battery somewhere along with the choke too. I just received my new mini speedo and tach as well as my 5 3/4" halo headlight too.. I mocked it all up and looks freakin sweet!

Finished my front and rear wheels today.... and I figured I am not using my center kick stand ever again... I decided to chop off the ends of it and use them as my new hard tail brackets!

Lookin very good man - I'm jealous! Maybe someday I'll have the time, money, and ambition to do a full tear-down build they way I'd really like it done but until then it's nothing but half-ass budget bobbers for me! :D

Awesome idea to steal the center stand mounts for your hardtail. That should look pretty sweet.. might have to borrow that idea from you if ever get around to hard-tailing one of mine.

If it was me and money wasn't the issue I would definitely powdercoat the frame.

I'm not going to criticize your build, or your personal tastes, but it is a shame to see a great example of an original bike cut up. Surely there were better candidates available (and I'm saying that as someone who does not really like the looks of the stock Maxim).

I came into this trying to find a healthy XJ650 knowing she would be torn down and put together once again in different form.

its a company that sells rejetting kits you tell them how far from stock your bike is and they give you the parts to make the carbs work with your mods

if you can make a longer rod you can move the bracket on the carb hats to the left outer carb and the bracket on the rod on to the outside you can mount a
bicycle shifter lever on the hat bracket with a short cable or linkage running to the rod bracket

    Well---

550 carb enricher cable hooks onto the end of the actuator rod.

650/750 enricher cable hooks onto the bracket in front of the third carb. That is held in place by a screw/bolt that goes through the rod. In order to relocate that bracket, you'd have to drill a new hole and thread it.

It's not as easy as 'just relocate it'
