Just got the pistons out of my 'standing for14 years' calipers. Time has taken its toll and both are pitted and have vice grip marks on the leading edge (not by me !)

I can get new pistons at a price but I figured maybe there are modern alternative that might also fit
anyone know of any that will 'bolt straight on..'

    Cheers

ever have any luck with an alternative? im having the same issue with my 81 xj750 seca pistons from the calipers are scored may be able to smooth them out and reuse (scary option) or replace with oem which isn't looking very cheap speaking of which what was the cheapest you've seen for them?

http://www.hvccycle.net/ - they sell replacement pistons for about $30 a piece or so. I had very good results on my XS400

Caliper pistons are plated, "smooth and reuse" is a pretty bad idea.

I don't think new (pattern) pistons are all that expensive to be honest, maybe 40 USD- I just figured that with a later caliper I could kill 2 birds with one stone. I didn't yet find any that will fit without adapters though..

HVC pistons are $27.95 a piece. They are also stainless steel, not plated mild steel like the originals. They actually have a full kit (pistons and seals) for the XJ for $87.
