    hey Guys,

Just curious, for you guys that have completely restored or rebuilt your bikes, how much cash are you into it for? counting purchase price.

Generally speaking, the budget for a proper recommissioning runs between $600 ~$800 regardless of purchase price. This assumes all DIY labor and little or no cosmetics (like paint.)

It's easy to spend quite a bit more; but you generally won't get away for less.

How far into the bike are you talking about? I am in the process of pricing up the entire engine rebuild, and $6-800 will just cover the cost of that from crank to carbs, with my hands providing the labor. Then it's probably the half again as much for a full suspension/tires/brakes and bearings overhaul. Then its paint on top of all that, and that assumes the electrical are all in good nick.

Why are you budgeting for a full engine rebuild? Are you certain that it needs one?

$500 for bike $2500 in customization is an conservative understatement of the parts. Labor, I cant even imagine how much it would be if I didnt do the work

This engine was full of water, so all seals, gaskets, bearings are being replaced. In addition, the cylinder walls and cams are pitted to the point of being useless, so I bought a good condition replacement top end already. There is no way to make resleeving all four cylinders economically feasible.

In Canada the cost is a little higher, I stopped counting at $1200.00 this is just engine the only outsourced labor was boring the cylinders $485.00 from stock to Big Bore kit (65 to 68mm) Grade 8 flanged bolts and Bearing shells from Yamaha are expensive! The piece of mind is worth every penny.

I don't keep track of $ or time. I just have fun working on them when/as I can.

Yeah, i am not wondering for any particular reason, I was just wondering if you guys dump as much money into it as I do and what those of you with bikes that are done being restored (for the most part) have spent.

Better part of or near 4k. It's full custom from the ground up so I spend money on it when I can

A lot of the cost will be determined on how much labor you provide, and how much you have to farm out. I can do a decent paint job for a daily-rider, but i'll have a professional do the paint if it's a true restoration and the paint isn't in great-original condition.

Lets see here..... $30 for the bike, about $2-300 getting it up and running right, then I began the bob. $500 or so in pieces and parts (seat, lights, tank, front end, wheels, etc.) spent the winter 2 years ago working off the barter for custom paint and body work. ($2000+ value), and conservatively 600 hours of "therapy" (labor).
The first pic is the day I picked her up
