What did you do to your Yamaha today?

I ordered a new tach cable, a new clutch cable and a set of rubber boots for the levers.

Should be here in a few more days.

 

I officially put it on the road today! This was a total PITA as someone originally only put down 9 digits of the VIN # and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts was a real PITA about it!

I had a LEO come over and verify the number and I was good to go! Now tomorrow I will get it inspected and then I can ride the snot out of it!

Checked the brushes, and put in a new battery. Will ride later hopefully.

 

The last time I reg'd my bike here in IL I noticed that the previous reg. and title only have the engine number, not the full VIN that Progressive Ins. made me deduce from the rubbed-up sticker on the frame. I mentioned it and the lady said if I wanted to correct it, I'd have to fill out some kind of affidavit, take it to the police and have them confrm the new number, then pay to reg. it again.

I opted to leave well enough alone for now.

Oh, and today I kept an old blind lady from crashing into my Yamaha - that's what I did for her. Those air horns WORK! I think the lady had to go home and change her Depends.

 

There are only 9 etched in my frame, but all are present on the id plate.

 

Flushed fresh brake fluid through the front brakes

Changed the oil and filter

Changed the air filter

Changed the rear gear fluid

Changed the spark plugs

Put the battery on my battery minder, battery still had %60 charge after sitting for a month and having tried to start the bike when the carbs were on.

Now I just have to wait for the carbs, and I should be up in running in the next couple of weeks.

 

Changed the oil and filter. Pretty black...nice to get that old blood out. In with the new!

Put on new handlebars. Got some from Chapparals for 10 bucks or so that flatten out the grip. PUt some new grips on. Not sure if I like em or not. They also may be not allowing the throttle to close fully. I'll have to look into that further.

I love the ride with the new bars. Feel more 'in tune' with the machine. That is a great feeling.

 

Started at getting out the old wire harness to put in the "new to me" one and thats when it started raining oh well theres always tomorrow

 

New fill of Castrol 20/50
New filter.
Blew out the Air Filter with some air.
Checked my tire pressure.

I even got a chance to paint some of that Liquid Electrical Tape on the Thumb Know of my Throttle Lock.

I'm also Over-hauling a set of Mikuni's off a Max-X that sat, full of gas, for over 8-years.

This is fun.

What I did do to my Queen today? Ah, I'm really exhausted now. 5 hours work today. Replaced the fork. Used my polished one. Polishing took me at least 6 hours to get the glance. But not looking bad now. Changed oil and filter too. I guess I'm coming closer to my goal with this bike. But after a test ride I noticed some kind of tick,tick,tick,tick coming out of the engine. This is really not amusing me! Looks like there is allways something to work on this Queen,

 

looked at more pics of her and cried, still stuck in Iraq for a few more months :cry: , but on the plus side, I just reenlisted with a great bonus, so that means money to fix her up when I do get home, now working on a list of stuff I want to do, I also picked up a set of vetter saddlebags and trunk rack, I can finally mount that dusty old box taking up room in my storage shed. and yes pics will be posted once I get it done, be mid/late oct 07

Bought a carb sync

 

Today I've just cleaned out oil from the alternator and will adjust the clutch.

Over the last few days I've:

changed the oil and filter
cleaned all wiring contacts and fuses
adjusted headlight
detailed cleaning and degreasing
adjusted cam chain tensioner
adjusted fork pressure
flushed (twice) and changed final drive fluid
fix headlight circuit
got signals working
adjusted handlebar controls and mirrors
cleaned air filter

And most importantly I made sure to take at least one "test ride" between operations.

Still to do:

greasing axles etc
clean up front caliper to get both pads engaging equally
check valve clearances
sync carbs
buy colortune and use it

And whatever else turns up as I work my way through those...

I do have a signal lens on order though, PO had broke one and glued it together, and I will need to buy a color tune and feeler gauges for some of the upcoming work.

 

replaced 81 harness with an 82 checked out carb holders with the wd-40 lots of cracks no difference in throttle but had lots of small bubbles so ill have to replace them in the future pulled off airbox boots to take off the carbs-----again i still have no mid range so ill clean again tomorrow

 

Hey there, new guy here.

Pulled off the wheels from the parts bike to get new tires put on the working bike. Adjusted the clutch. Attached some new mirrors and figured out how to pull off the rear brake.

Tomorrow: Get the wheels with new tires on the bike, reattach both brakes and get out riding

 

Rode it. Filled the tank. Rode more. Parked it. Repeat tomorrow.

 

Did some finishing touches on new forward controls. Then sat on it and tried to daydream a seat into existence.

 

Getting every thing ready to do more airbrushing! Fun fun
