    Hey guys,

I'm starting my bobber project with an 1982 XJ650 with only 12 000 miles. Engine looks perfect condition, exept for the gas tank that is rusted all around Inside/outside... nothing to do with it...

I saw some custom made on EBay. here is an exemple : http://www.ebay.com/itm/361083203786?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT

What you guys think about it, about the look and the installation ?? Would that be a good altenative or should I try to find an original one?

    Thanks !!

I think that if you stray from the Maxim/Seca line you're going to have to deal with a lot of fab work. I know this because I just fit a honda CB400 tank to my 750 maxim and while it will fit, it took some pounding, cutting, and welding to get there.

If you'd like, I'll sell you my stock maxim tank that is in good shape.

I dont think that you should go with a custom made one, unless you know a little bit about fabricating and installation yourself. It'll be pretty hard to find an original tank so i guess you just have to pick your poison. Are you sure that the bikes tank is not fixable ? you can always clean and scrub it down really good?.. Anyway, give motorcycle house a try. I bought some stuff from them before and not bad.. http://www.motorcyclehouse.com/gas-tanks-and-accessories.htm

There is a previous post here in Modifications where an early CB750 tank was used without much modification. There is another post where a 550 Seca tank was modified to fit.
