Looking to synch my carbs and I need some type of synchronizing (inexpensive) tool. I've checked out analog gauges and manometers but I came across this tool on Ebay and was wondering if anyone has had any type of experience with this tool and it's pros and cons. This is about a third of the price and I'm on a budget so I'm always looking for a deal. Thanks JF.

Just get the Morgan carbtune. You'll waste more time farting around with stuff, swallowing tranny fluid.....or worse---mercury; swearing and throwing things, breaking things, etc. when you're done, you have the carbtune and you can tune everyone else's engines.

I have the tool pictured above and love it. I can sync my carbs in about 10 minutes.

If you want frugal, here is what I use. You can Google and find many variations on it. I use 80W90 gear oil in it. The only pro is it cost less than $10 to build. It is very unforgiving of vacuum leaks, unhooked hoses, really poor vacuum on one cylinder, being stored improperly, and lack of your ability to shut a bike off really quick if there are issues. I built it years ago when I thought that KZ would be my only 4 cyl bike (I think my wife wishes that were true too). That said, it works well if the moons are aligned. The Morgan is nice cause there are stainless rods to indicate vacuum, no fluids to suck up, spill etc. If you're inexperienced or plan to do multiple bikes/host carb clinics I would get something decent.

A vacuum gauge, a pencil, and a pad of paper. Yes you have to switch the hose for the vacuum gauge around as you work (unless you want to build a manifold with valves), but it's a multi-use tool.

+1 on that! And I found as an added perk, with my XJ550R, I didn't even have to remove the tank. Just took the back hold bolt off and stuck a 2" piece of wood to lift the back of the tank. I was able to connect the carbtune hoses then use a 1/4 rachet with a screw driver bit attached to sync the carbs. Nice not having to worry about an temporary fuel supply.

I don't worry about a temporary fuel supply. I have a music stand shaft with a snowblower gas tank mounted on top. I have a fuel shut-off valve on it, and about 6 or so feet of fuel line with a filter. I pull the tank out of the way so I don't damage it. I put the stand next to the bike and stick the filter to the carb line. and there's nothing to worry about cuz I can move the gas tank to where I want.

    G'day,
I bought the same long hose kit about a year ago and it works very well, I use it with the YICS bar and the balance is spot on! I also use it frequently with my FJ1100. Go for it.

    Cheers, Gareth

Waaaaaaay back in my College, days I remember a bit about differential pressure and we made up homemade monometers for a lab experiment. So I 'll try that option first. I'd love to go out and buy quality tools like CarbTune and such but right now the Canadian dollar it's 20 cents less than US dollars and the British pound is worth double that of our dollar. I've been stockpiling parts over the winter, so I can put the bike through a DOT inspection in the spring. Is my information correct about the size of gas line 1/4 " and 6 mm for the vacuum line? ( bikes in storage and not accessible )
