    Joey,

You should look into refurbishing your carbs instead of buying the entire thing. It takes some work to get them back in shape but is totally worth knowing that everything has been replaced and in spec. Channel has all the jets and parts that you would need to get it done. Otherwise you may find yourself rebuilding somebody else's carbs that have not been serviced.

Thanks ecologito. My mixture screws are stripped and I can't get them out. How can I rebuild them if they are stripped and stuck in there?

550 and 650 carbs are totally different. there are a bunch of 550 carbs for sale on the bay of "e" but they are pricy. you might try a left hand twist drill bit and some heat with penetrating oil to get the mixture screws out. then you can get replacement screws from chacal.

yeah, 650 and 550 are not interchangeable. What do you mean by "stripped"------ screwdriver slot chewed out, or it spins but doesn't come up? Once you can get them to lift out, I believe Len Chacal might have taps for rethreading. I THINK

The screwdrive slot is chewed out on two of them. I got the other 2 out but only one of the heads were slightly stripped.

Small drill bits and easy-out, or careful use of a dremel and carbide bit to deepen the screwdriver slots

If you still can't get the out and you end up getting new ones, I might be interested in yours to experiment with

What Dave said, easy out tools work well. Try spraying them with Kroil to get them loose. I have been successful using the easy out and Kroil with almost all screws that I have come across (except for one bowl drain screw).

I still recommend the left hand twist drill bit if you can find them. 1/8 inch ought to do. the reason being, you are more likely to back out the screw with the drill and less likely to drive it home for good. I used one to remove my float bowl drain screws, worked like a charm. I also heat up the item first then hit it with the penetrating fluid. the temperature shock and the increased penetration of the penetrating fluid will most likely break it loose before you even hit it with the drill.
