Nobody needs to reply to this---- I just can't post a pic in a private conversation . Sorry to trouble everyone else who decides to read this:

Here's the handle.. As I understand it, USA bikes got just a single one on the left side, euro ones got one on the right, too

If they got a handle on the right side, does that mean the centerstand has a "shoe" on the right side, also?

Nope, but is a good question. Other secas have them on both sides, though...

I gues it's because the European model needs two people to lift the 550r on to the center stand

having two of them could be handy for lashing cargo or a backpack down too.

    I didn't have any so I got a pair from ebay - Honda NS125
They needed a little surgery to fit, but I'm happy with them.

I always thought the purpose of them were to assist you (give you something to grab hold of) when you're trying to "stand up" a bike that has fallen over..........

Which is exactly what I explained in the private conversation----- ( which, of course, nobody else gets to see-----) but as I said early on, I only posted the pic here cuz I couldn't post it in a "conversation".

Ah, here is where I put it the other day in a forum, too----
    -------

My Seca doesn't have one. I've got this weird sissy bar that wraps all around the tail section and bolts on to the top suspension bolts. Rear turn signals are mounted on the bar. I've never seen another one on a Seca, so I assume it's aftermarket... Anyhoo, I want to take it off, cuz I ain't no sissy, but I need one of those handle things first, because centerstands are harrrd! (Sissy voice)
PS Spellcheck keeps telling me "Seca" is a spelling error! Somebody should fix that!lol

Also, Dave, I don't think you can post things to which no one replies. We wait for your words of wisdom like we wait for dry pavement! Educate us, o wise one!
PS Now that I've flattered you enough, you think you could spare a standing handle?;)(big wink!)

I'm thinking about picking up another left side and bending to my will so I will have one on both sides.

So, are they for assisting in getting the bike on the centerstand, standing up a bike that has fallen over or both? My vote is for both.

    So.. heresy or foolishness..
But in the interests of shedding weight, what if I did away with my centrestand entirely and only ever used the sidestand?
    Thoughts?

Then you'd only use the standing handle as a "pick up off the ground handle"

I was confused for a minute. Dum Matti thought you used a rag around the shock for the center stand! Was about to post question about how a rag replaces a center stand, and then Smart Matti hit me in the brain, and all maked sense! Damn. Good tip, though. Now i gots ideas similar to a Jeep's grab handle (used for offroading)

I like to use the center stand as much as possible. There is nothing like parking along side a bunch of HD's all parked on their side stands and my bike sitting straight up proud as a peacock. But its a good idea to start a bike on the center stand till is warmed up.
