Hello all, i thought i had posted on here before but seem to have forgotten my details.

As tittle suggests i have a pre divi xj, which on the day of taking it for an mot wouldnt start. after much fault finding i came to the conclusion the cdi was dead. i have been searching hi and low for months now with no luck, and yamaha want in the reigon of 800 pounds.

does anyone know what else may fit, how to repair, or of an aftermarket soloution?

also would it be possible to retro fit one from a diversion with a little cable butchery?

    thank you for any help,

    Daniel.

to give it its correct name ,its a T.C.I. ( transistor controlled ignition) not C.D.I. which is capacitor discharge ignition ,not used on these bikes. if you're searchin ,use t.c.i., theres a couple on there now.
    just sayin,o_O

I live in Bury Too! Its a small world. The TCI may be ok - do you have 12v to it? there is also a New Zealand (Hyperpak) company who advertise on ebay a compatible unit for about £90. Also, check ebay as there is a guy in Brandon breaking one for spares. I also have an article about TCI repairs that I can email you if you like - it's the capacitors that fail aparrently.

lastly - there is a good chance another one will fit. The engine is very similar to the 550 and there are small timing differences, so it may get you going.
I may be in the market for one if you cannot get it going.....!!!

Thank you all. i have checked the power to the tci, the pickup coil and coils are ok aswell.

Makie, i mailed the guy in brandon, he was advertising on bookoo a few months ago. apparently the tci was the first item to sell. would be very intereted in the repair guide i will pm you my email if thats ok?

as for selling it that would depend on the offer, its almost become a family treasure now lol.

    thank you again, Daniel

I'll send the write up - although it is not for the faint hearted - or guaranteed! If you really are considering selling I would like to see it. I do understand these old ladies are 25+ years old now!

The other option is www.ignitech.cz - euro exchange in our favour right now too.
