What are fellow XJ 550 owners using to clean lub the drive chain. This is one thing that make us differant from other XJ's. What time intervals is this service taken at.

O ring safe chain lube such as PJ1. Have a look at some dirt bike forums to see what brands they are using. Google search "diirt bike chain lube".

Wipe chain with clean rag, do not use solvents or WD40 type spreys. Once a week lube should do for road use.

I happened to come across this article on WebBikeWorld,

    http://www.webbikeworld.com/t2/motorcyc ... n-lube.htm

about the time I got my Seca 400. The DuPont spray is the only thing I've used, and my new BikeMaster 0-ring chain has only had to be tightened once or twice in 5,000 miles. I haven't cleaned the chain at all - I just spray it liberally every week or two.

With o-ring chains, the lubricant is sealed inside, so our main concern is to prevent rust and NOT do damage to the o-rings.

The DuPont spray dries to a white, waxy film, thus no fling and no greasy bike or jacket, and seems very benign to rubber or anything else. Since it is not sticky or gooey, it also doesn't attract any dirt or grit.

I get the DuPont spray at Lowe's for about $6 a can (I think), and unless something happens to change my mind, I won't be trying anything else.

    Stay safe!
    Herb
