I got an '82 XJ650RJ for $100. It needs a LOT of work, but for $100, it's a cheap project.

Haven't taken it home yet, but from what I saw, it definitely has:

    -rusted gas tank
    -broken clutch cable
    -worn front wheel bearings
    -bent handlebars
    -all kinds of cosmetic issues

    On the plus side:

-the starter turns the engine over, gets a "bang" from starter fluid in the cylinder
    -has both side covers
-is only 15 blocks from my house

I'm taking it home this weekend.

That is exactly what mine looked like when I got it. Good luck with it. It is totally worth it when you are done. You might as well get on those carbs first thing. That is where my biggest issue was.
    Cheers

I think I clean-up and pretty-up the Swing-arm on the other bike; first!

That other bike isn't mine, it's a Virago that was also being sold. I passed on it, because I already have a sweet red cruiser.

These pictures are from when I went and saw it -- it's not home yet.

Good thing you passed on the Virago, those 535 were crumby bikes (one of the few things I didn't begrudge my ex-wife taking off with). You are better off with the 650, believe me!

    Awesome!

I've never seen one like that before. I'd love to have that tank/seat/rear fender on my bike! I might have to keep an eye out for those pieces.

That Virago is either a 750 or a 920, good bikes, have starter issues, but good bikes nevertheless. If its a 920, they are kind of getting scarce, so get a bit more money than the 750's. cruzerjd

The nicest thing I have to say about my Virago is ...

I got good money for it the day I got rid of it!

    "Starter Issues"???

Somebody would have made a fortune if they had invented a Kick Start Package for the dam things.

It's either a 500 or 750 Virago. The 920 had the CYCOM lcd gauges. Looks kind of small for a 750 too.

    Definately is "Ready for Restoration"
dontcha just love - that - phrase. Ride it to death, leave it out in the weather for a few more years, then put the ad in the paper.
This will make a good photo progression as you bring it back to life.
