I believe that's your clutch safety switch, so you don';t start in gear. Should go into your headlamp bucket.

^That^ is exactly correct. They are still available new from Yamaha. Chacal carries them.

I wouldn't recommend disabling it, as the bike will start in gear. Much simpler to replace it. There should be 2 wires going to the headlamp bucket and theres a very small hole where the wires go to the clutch lever and just insert a small awl into the hole, there a small snap in there, once it release you can pull the lead off it and reverse the procedure to put it on.

Take it from someone who used to have a Sportster with a key-turn type starter, you will only try and start the bike in gear ONE time, after that you will rock the bike in neutral every time before attempting to start it.

I agree with BSHank In addition to the clutch switch however you have a side stand switch and a neutral light.

after you get rid of all that safety stuff and tune it up, try this.
in gear, clutch out, stand down, standing on the left side with your right foot on the peg. Now hit the starter, sit on it and put the stand up all in one motion while you drive away.
only do this around people who already know your a goof ball :)

I actually watched a young lady do this on a KTM super moto up in Tennessee, I wondered how the hell she was going to get up on that bike. Next thing I knew, with the bike on the stand the whole time, she stood on the left peg, threw her leg over the saddle, and in one motion stomped down on the kicker and used the momentum to heave the bike off the stand and swept it up then rode off.

Is it weird that I find that kinda hot? I don't mean just you, Polock! Young, competent lady on a big fast bike? Too cool! And she's into reckless action? My kinda girl!
