    Has anyone ever heard of/seen a mod that makes the locking chain housing into a usable storage bin?

    It seems like it could be done/should have been done already - maybe using the lock off the chain as a support/securing point for the "lid"?

    I've thought about making a metal locking storage box to fit that area, but haven't had any time to go beyond sketches. Maybe this summer I can work on it as time allows.

    If I lived somewhere where the Chain was important enough to carry (vs. a small survival kit) I would too. But since I rarely tote panniers or other carry bags (that are far more likely to be stolen than the bike) a place to lock small sundries seems like a good idea.

    I'd carry my chain there too, if I had a key for it (on my to-d0 list). Of course it's not as much of a deterrent as a more stout chain.
