So I picked up this 82' 550 for 75 bucks yesterday and it turns over but wont get fuel but that is a neither here nor there at this point as i will be tearing her down as a bobber project. this is my first build project for a bike. I have lots of 4wheel project experience but nothing with a bike.

Anyone know of local WA state sources for parts and whatnot? Or good starting points for the build. I figured the motor was the best place to start as it has always been on my 4wheel projects (doesn't do much good to have a pretty bike that wont run..lol) 20150307_120407.jpg

at this point beyond stripping it down and starting one piece at a time, I need to get a new ignition and gas cap assy as the ignition was cored out and there are no keys to open the tank... lol... I think someone attempted to steal it at some point or succeeded. luckily there was no theft reporting on it nor was there any collision or salvage info either....

    Wiring and front end off.

    Pulled carb and rebuilding.

I am leaving motor in tact for now as I want to run it for a while before deciding if I want to rebuild...

But for how nasty the exterior was, the internals are real clean... except the #4 body and internals that got some moisture and corrosion issues...

I decided frame was less frustrating than carb so I switched gears and started mocking up the tail while parts are in the ChemDip... 20150322_200219.jpg 20150322_200226.jpg

looks like you have some idea of what you are doing. I like your assembly fixture. I can't wait to see the outcome.

Thanks, It was just a couple of bases from welders delivered to my work. (I work at a welding supply store with full access to rental machines.. Muahaaa haaa haa!) I would say my buddy knows what he is doing and is trying to be patient with me along the way.. He is mostly there for "Doh!" moments but is teaching me a lot... his welding table made it to high and I was tired of crouching...
