image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg So this is what I've spent the last couple months working on and it's finally time to start getting it put back together. The first picture is before I sanded the whole frame and the second picture is as I was painting it. Still the hardest thing I've had to do is the carbs.....I hate those damn things. Once I get the carbs back in working order I'll be able to start the next part of the project......wiring.

nice looking work. is that a seca or maxim? I find it interesting that so many people think the carbs are a pain. they were a piece of cake for me.

It's a maxim. The carbs wouldn't be so bad if the parts were in decent shape. I had to replace EVERYTHING internal on them. I have a feeling the wiring is gonna give me a hard time too. I'm completely redoing the wires and everything

So is the upper part of the frame by the tank stops and fork tube all stock or did you modify it at all? and do you have any pictures during the cutting and re-welding of the upper engine cage?

Ok guys another problem haha. Anyone who has hardtailed their xj help me please. How did you run your back brake? The piece that the brake pedal mounts to is useless on mine now. Any ideas? I'm guessing it use to mount to the swing arm?

the brake pedal pivot went through a hole in the frame. Then there is a long rod that goes back to to the brake arm on the brake plate. You'll have to make a new longer rod for that.... The bigger issue is how you will keep your brake plate from rotating. You will have to figure out a way to attach your brake plate stay from the 'ear' on the brake plate to the frame. Again, you'll have to make a longer one. You'll probably have to weld a tab onto your frame somewhere and do some touchup painting then. Simplest thing would be to look closely at a pic or two of standard 550 setups again just to see where/how the ends of the rods/shafts connect. All you have to do is make them longer.
