I live near the ocean and I'm getting a lot of oxidation on the aluminum parts of the engine--I guess from the salt in the air. Anyone know a good preventative other than paint?

The frame is fine, no rust, good paint. I'm just getting a powder type oxidation on the engine. I wouldn't call it corrosion.

Keep it clean and wipe it with NevRDull from time to time, inside the cooling fins and everywhere you can reach with a Qtip.

Up here, they spread salt on the road all winter long......from sometime in the fall to sometime in the spring. The simplest solution is to not ride when salt is present. So.....the bikes stay in hibernation until all salt is washed off the roads, the roads are clean and dry, and the weather is nice again. Obviously not THIS week. Got another 2" of snow last night........good thing I have sleds to play with

I'll give NevRDull a try. Moving away from the coast probably isn't an option as long as I have a wife.

Haha, my wife is a Florida native and has not forgiven me for moving her to Houston. Don't make the same mistake I did.

First day of spring break......still over a foot of snow on the ground, snowing this morning, 15 degrees, single digits tonight. Its supposed to be cold all week. I'll keep sledding......maybe this is actually Winter Break number 2.

Yep, I feel your pain. Here in South Georgia it's 42 and windy and we're freezing! :)

Shit, the temp got down into the 50's yesterday morning and my wife called me in tears because she is sick of the cold weather. I keep telling her it is much colder everywhere else, but she doesn't care...

Looks good from what I've read. Think I'll get a can. However, I don't think it is intended to be used on anything that gets as hot as the engine.

"Use ACF-50 anywhere, except the brakes, on your bike including the engine and exhaust (will smoke on first start and burn off down pipes but still slows down corrosion process). Safe on paintwork, most rubbers and brings up black plastic trim a treat."

    from : http://www.acf-50.co.uk/motorcycle.htm

The skin surface of a jet exceeds 300ºF at somewhere around Mach 2.5. ACF50 was developed for jet aircraft.

Thanks for the reminder Bleedingoxide. I had totally forgotten about that product. We used to use it on our boat.
